Kim Marley, MD, has become a member of the Somerset Hospital Medical Staff. He is a general surgeon specializing in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric or weight-loss surgery.
At Somerset Hospital, Dr. Marley will concentrate on bariatric or weight-loss surgery and specifically lap banding procedures. The lap banding system is less invasive than other methods and has fewer risks and side effects. Lap banding is a restrictive procedure which an adjustable gastric band is placed around the upper part of the stomach and creates a smaller stomach pouch which restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time and increases the time until you are hungry again. Patients achieve sustained weight loss by limiting intake, reducing appetite and slowing digestion.
Dr. Marley has been in the practice of General and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery since 1992. He retired from the United States Army in 2005, after 21 years of service. Dr Marley was on the teaching staff at Walter Reed Medical Center for his last 10 years of service. He was the Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery when he retired.
Dr. Marley earned his Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his Internship in General Surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and his Residency in General Surgery at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Dr. Marley is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. He was certified in General surgery by the American Board of Surgery in 1993 and recertified in 2002.
Dr. Marley will maintain an office in Suite 3200 of the Wheeler Family Medical Center which is located directly across from Somerset Hospital. He will have the support of a team that includes an Exercise Physiologist, a Licensed Social Worker and a Registered Dietitian.
