Diabetes Alert Day
The Somerset Hospital Diabetes Education Center will be participating in this year’s American Diabetes Association Alert Day. The Center will host a free-education session entitled Know Your Risk on Tuesday, March 23rd at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Conference Room 423.

Participants are encouraged to participate by taking the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing diabetes. In addition, information, strategies and resources will be provided to help individuals reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes is a serious disease that strikes nearly 24 million children and adults across the United States. An additional 57 million, or one in five Americans have pre-diabetes which puts them at a high risk for developing the disease. For many, diagnosis may come seven to ten years after the onset of the disease. Therefore, early diagnosis is critical t successful treatment and delaying or preventing some of its complications such as heart disease, blindness, kidney disease and stroke.

Reservations are encouraged to ensure adequate seating and materials. For additional information or reservations, contact Elena Gary at the Somerset Hospital Diabetes Education Center at 443-5744.
