Somerset Hospital in conjunction with the Cancer Project will offer the Food for Life program beginning September 8th. The Cancer Project is a non-profit organization that promotes cancer prevention and survival through a better understanding of cancer causes, particularly the link between nutrition and cancer.
The four-class program provides information about how specific foods and nutrients discourage cancer growth plus cooking demonstrations of simple and healthy recipes that can be recreated easily at home. The instructor is Laurie Jacobson.
Program content includes: an introduction to how foods fight cancer; fueling up on low-fat, high fiber foods; discovering dairy and meat alternatives; and cancer-fighting compounds and healthy weight control.
There is a $60 fee to participate. The fee includes samplings of 24 recipes. A text/cookbook is loaned to students. Persons needing additional information or wanting to register may contact Melissa Wojtaszek at the hospital’s Community Connection department by calling 814-443-5735.
