Free Colorectal Cancer Screening Offered
The Somerset Oncology Center and Somerset Hospital will sponsor a free colorectal screening during the month of March. The screening will be in the form of a hemocult test.

Free colorectal cancer test kits may be picked up at the Somerset Oncology Center any weekday in March between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The oncology center is located at 314 South Kimberly Avenue.

Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer for both men and women in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths. During the past year, approximately 133,000 new cases of colorectal cancer were diagnosed.

"According to Sibyl McNelly of the Somerset Oncology Center, "A national task force has recommended that colorectal cancer related morbidity can be reduced through specific screening tests. That’s the purpose of our screening. We hope by intensifying our efforts the public will develop an awareness of colorectal cancer."

There is no fee for the screening. Persons wishing additional information may call the Somerset Oncology Center at 444-1424.
