Somerset Hospital is partnering with the Highmark Foundation to offer KidShape, a nationally family-based weight management program in January 2010. The program is intended to give help to children struggling to deal with weight issues.
The nine-week program, sponsored through the region as part of the Highmark Healthy High 5 initiative, is for families with overweight children ages six to 14. The program helps children and their families through better nutrition, increased physical activity and improved self-esteem.
Children are referred to the program-based on weight criteria-by a physician, school nurse or other health care provider. Parents or guardians enroll along with their child in KidShape and are required to attend the sessions. Participants don’t have to have insurance to participate in the program.
Somerset Hospital will offer KidShape beginning on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Somerset Hospital Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Anyone interested in learning more about Somerset Hospital’s KidShape program is encouraged to call 814-445-3330.
