Stereotactic Breast Biopsy is a noninvasive breast procedure that is used to obtain a sample of breast tissue to determine malignancy is now available at Somerset Hospital.  This procedure is combined with Digital Mammography and is an added feature to Somerset Hospital’s existing Hologic mammography system.

The Affirm Stereotactic Breast biopsy system represents the next generation in upright breast biopsy.  This solution is designed to work with Somerset Hospital’s mammography unit to streamline efficiency and optimize workflow which gives our facility the opportunity to offer leading edge technology in minimally invasive breast biopsy.

Before Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, patients would have to have a needle localization procedure where a guide wire was positioned in the breast under mammography guidance.  This guide wire was used a guidance for the surgeon to remove the area of breast tissue.  By performing Stereotactic Breast Biopsy procedures here at Somerset Hospital, our patients have the opportunity to have this noninvasive procedures locally.  For additional information, contact the Imaging Center at Somerset Hospital.  Call 814-443-5043.
