The HOPE program components include an overview of osteoporosis, nutrition education and cooking demonstrations, strength training exercises, medication options and stress management. According to a report of the Surgeon General, osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans or 55 percent of people 50 years of age and older.

The professional staff at Somerset Hospital has been trained by Highmark’s exercise physiologists, registered dietitians and behavioral health specialists. There is no fee for Highmark members and a $100 fee for non-Highmark members.
